Melissa McCarthy
It's been a big year for Melissa McCarthy. Her CBS sitcom "Mike & Molly" hit big in it's first season, and she scored an Emmy for that. Her role in "Bridesmaids" didn't hurt either, garnering her a SAG nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

Kristen Wiig
SNL's Kristen Wiig proved that girls can be funny too in the summer comedy "Bridesmaids." Not only did she star in the comedy, she wrote and produced it too! The film had audiences rolling in the aisles all summer long.

Tom Hiddleston
You don't usually find yourself cheering for the bad guy, but Tom Hiddleston's portrayal of Loki in Marvel's "Thor" had audiences taking a second look. Not only that, but he also caught the eyes of Woody Allen and Steven Spielberg as snatched up roles in "Midnight in Paris" and "War Horse." We'll see him again as Loki next summer in Marvel's "Avengers."

Emma Stone
Emma Stone charmed us in "Crazy, Stupid, Love," but it was her role as Skeeter in "The Help" that wowed audiences this summer. She fearlessly triumphed as a young white woman writing about hardships of African American housekeepers in her small town during the Civil Rights movement in the 1960s. She'll team up with her real-life boyfriend Andrew Garfield next year in "The Amazing Spider-Man."

Jessica Chastain
She seemed to come out of nowhere and her films "backed up like buses," says UK's The Daily Mail. One after another, "Tree of Life," "The Debt," and "The Help" propelled Jessica Chastain right to the top of the A-list with a buzz of awards around her. Keep an eye out for her next year in Shakespeare's "Coriolanus," directed by and starring Ralph Fiennes. She's also slated to portray the beloved Princess Diana in "Caught In Flight."

Rooney Mara
Things certainly started buzzing for Rooney Mara as soon as word spread that she would play "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo." What was probably the most coveted role in Hollywood, Rooney underwent a drastic tranformation to play Lisbeth Salander in the English adaptation of the first installment of Stieg Larsson's Millennium series. She's definitely proven her worth. She starts filming "Lawless" with Ryan Gosling and Christian Bale next year.

Noomi Rapace
Noomi Rapace was the first to bring Lisbeth Salander to life in the Swedish language adaptation of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," but everyone is buzzing about her role in "Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows." It's her first English-language role, and it certainly won't be her last.

Michael Fassbender
It seems like Michael Fassbender was on the big screen a lot this year. He began the year as the romantic Rochester in "Jane Eyre," then he kicked big-screen butt as Magneto in "X-Men: First Class," and while his new film "Shame" won't make it to most theaters, Michael has shown a huge range in the films he's been it this year. He will certainly be a name to remember.
