Julie Reviews: 22 Jump Street & How To Train Your Dragon 2
We have 2 big sequels opening this week so first let’s take a look at “22 Jump Street” starring Jonah Hill & Channing Tatum.
If you liked “21 Jump Street” then you’re going to LOVE this one because it’s the EXACT SAME MOVIE. They even make jokes about the fact that they’re doing the very same thing but with a MUCH larger budget. It works because these characters are a blast but they got a little lazy with the humor. Most of the jokes center around the pseudo-lover’s-quarrels Tatum & Jonah Hill have throughout the movie but it wears thin. We know from the first movie that they can be really funny but they didn’t try as hard this time so what could’ve been a GREAT movie ends up just being good. “22 Jump Street” still gets a B from me though because I could watch Channing Tatum make fun of himself all day long.
Also out this week is “How to Train Your Dragon 2” where Hiccup finds a new Dragon Master and a brand new threat to his home.
The first “How to Train Your Dragon” is one of my favorite animated movies so I was dreading this one because I knew they’d never top the first. Thankfully, they don’t really try. Instead, we’re given a whole new story with loads of new challenges, characters and best of all, new dragons. Even the characters we remember from the last film have developed to the point where they feel new. They go for the same emotional depths as the first film which might be a bit too much for some kids. I know that both of my girls ended up in tears multiple times, just like their mother but that is the only complaint I have so I’m giving “How to Train Your Dragon 2” an A. This is one for parents as well as kids and especially anyone who is an animal lover because the dragons are like great big doggies.
