Following the announcement yesterday (May 23) that John Mayer will be headlining Jay Z’s Made In America festival in Los Angeles, Mayer dropped a little surprise on the world by making his cover of Beyoncé’s hit single “XO” available.

Mayer originally premiered the song  back in April, while on his Australia tour. The recorded version features Mayer solo on acoustic guitar and playing harmonica.

It’s a very stripped-down take on the song penned and produced for Bey by Ryan Tedder and The-Dream. Stripping away their synths and keyboards, all the electronic elements, makes it a much more Mayer-esque track.

Aside from the Made in America festival date, Mayer is doing little else than tour the world at this point. Now off his Australian tour, the singer hits Europe next month, with shows in England, Denmark, Norway and more.
