News in theaters this week we have “X-Men: Days of Future Past” starring Patrick Stewart & Ian McKellan as Professor X and Magneto.

This movie has a time-traveling element so it also stars James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender as Professor X and Magneto. This is especially fun because we get to revisit all of our favorite characters from the X-Men movies. We start in the future where mutants are being killed off by robots that were constructed from one of their owns DNA.  Their only hope is to leap into the past to alert their earlier selves and try to change the direction of events. This leads to the best part of the movie, where Wolverine is sent back to the early 1970’s to find the younger mutants. This X-Men flips between past and future so we meet cool new mutants in both realms but even more exciting is the addition of Peter Dinklage as the villain Dr. Bolivar Trask.

The second act gets bogged down by all the death and destruction and Mystique is incredibly grim so Jennifer Lawrence doesn’t get to show her sassy side. It’s also hard to mention this movie without thinking about the salacious charges currently lodged against it’ Director Bryan Singer. That’s too bad because I think this is the best X-Men movie I’ve seen to date and honestly, the best movie I’ve seen so far this year. That’s why I’m giving “X-Men: Days of Future Past” an A, even though the title sounds like a Saturday Night Live Sketch.
