New in theaters this week, we have “Non-stop,” starring Liam Neeson as an Air Marshall who has to save a trans-Atlantic flight from a murderer.
This isn’t the best movie for anxious flyers like me because it has ALL the things we fear: turbulence, bombs and worst of all, an unhinged Air Marshall. Liam Neeson’s character has to drink to even get ON a plane so how helpful can he be when someone starts knocking off passengers? Look, I don’t want to tell you too much because watching how “Non-stop” unfolds is part of the fun. I will say that it’s completely ridiculous and someone with an aviation background could probably tell us why none of this is possible. “Non-stop” is so fast-paced and unpredictable though that you probably won’t care. It completely unravels at the end but I had enough fun before that to give “Non-Stop” a C. Like any bumpy flight, “Non-Stop” is better if you stop asking questions and just enjoy the ride.
There are 2 big movies out on DVD this week. First we have “Gravity” so you can see it before the Oscars Sunday night. Remember, it’s been nominated for 10 Oscars and I personally gave it an A+. Or you could rent “Thor: Dark World,” starring Chris Hemsworth. This one wasn’t near as good as the first but Tom Hiddleston’s Loki is awesome enough to save anything so I still gave this Thor a B+.
