We’ve all seen it, when we take the pooch out to do their business, they walk in a circle, or back and forth for what seems like an eternity (especially in the cold) before picking the perfect spot to poop. Well, scientists, with a lot of time on their hands, have finally figured out why our pups do that! The answer is actually more interesting than I initially thought.

Our dogs, according to the study published by Time, actually prefer to align themselves with the earth’s magnetic field. Essentially, dogs like to do their business while aligned North-South, and will avoid pooping to the east or west. Crazy right? That cannot be true!

I decided to test the theory with my pup Meg today. This was the result.

She was only 14 degrees off! My dog is a magnet, an adorable, slobbering, kissing, pooping…magnet! Try this next time your dog does the doo…you’ll be amazed!
