Fresh Prince Actor James Avery, 68, Dies
Actor James Avery is most remembered as Will Smith’s beloved Uncle Phil on the 1990’s sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. The actor passed away New Year’s Eve from complications arising from open heart surgery, Huff Post reports.
Former Fresh Prince co-star Alfonso Ribeiro tweeted his reaction to Avery’s passing, saying, “I’m deeply saddened to say that James Avery has passed away. He was a second father to me. I will miss him greatly.”
Avery was a classically trained actor and poet. Aside from his on-screen credits, he also provided the voice for several characters on animated series such as “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” in 1987 and “Iron Man” in the 1990s. He was also a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.
Here’s to you James Avery! Once last hoorah, the Fresh Prince theme song!
And while we’re at it.
One of the most viral videos of the last year had Will Smith on the Graham Norton Show on the BBC with Carlton.
Will rapped the song, Alfonso Rebeiro did the “Carlton” and everyone cheered.
It also had almost 20 million views.
