We can all agree this was a momentous year full of ups and downs that were experienced by an entire nation. I’ve compiled a list of the most newsworthy headlines of 2013, meaning you couldn’t turn on the radio, television or surf the web without seeing something about them. Let’s reminisce together, shall we?

Biggest Stories of 2013

Internet Sensations: From the Harlem Shake to What does the Fox Say?, we couldn’t escape these viral videos. Nor could we resist making our own versions.

Celebrity Meltdowns: The hijinks started early with football player Manti Te’o realizing his girlfriend was a sham. Then Amanda Bynes went on her crazy tangent. Paula Deen sent herself into a downward slide by admitting she used the n-word, and Miley Cyrus taught us how to use a foam finger at the VMAs.

In Memoriam: We lost many of the greats this year from heroes (Chris Kyle) to actors (James Gandolfini, Paul Walker), a radio host many of us grew up listening to (Kidd Kraddick), even an international leader (Nelson Mandela).  We also witnessed the end to what many people call the greatest tv show of all time (Breaking Bad) and the near-death of a popular character (Brian Griffin on Family Guy) which thankfully turned out to be a publicity stunt.

Births: It rained babies with the highly-publicized deliveries of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s baby North (which ultimately led to their engagement). That was only trumped by the birth of the much-anticipated royal baby Prince George. The news also came out that Cowboys Quarterback Tony Romo and his wife Candice are pregnant with their second child.

Tragedy: The annual Boston Marathon was devastated by a bombing. The small community of West, TX experienced an explosion at a fertilizer plant that rocked the area. Our neighbors in Moore, Oklahoma were subjected to a deadly tornado. Our nation’s capital was grief-stricken when a gunman opened fire in the Washington Navy Yard.

Sports: Danica Patrick became the first woman to ever get the pole at the Daytona 500. Beyonce’s performance at Super Bowl XLVII was highlighted by the reunion of Destiny’s Child. JerryWorld in Arlington gets a new name after partnering up with AT&T.

Politics: Whether you loved it or hated it, President Obama revolutionized healthcare in the US. Our government shut down for the 12th time in history, but at least we didn’t have to deal with Rob Ford the Mayor of Toronto’s shenanigans.

Health: Angelina Jolie underwent a double mastectomy. Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts returned after a successful bone marrow transplant (and subsequently came out of the closet to thank her girlfriend for her support). Michael Douglas taught us an interesting cause of throat cancer.

Trials: The highly-controversial case of Trayvon Martin/George Zimmerman came to a close when Zimmerman was found not guilty. Jodi Arias wasn’t so lucky. Major Nidal Hasan was convicted and sentenced to death for the Fort Hood shooting.

Feel Goods: A San Francisco boy who was battling cancer warmed our hearts with his day as Batkid. Zazza and Julie helped five families celebrate a very special Christmas with Santa’s Sparkle, and DFW Rescue Me helped over 500 dogs find homes thanks to people like you.

Have a safe and happy new year. Here’s to an even better 2014!
