She Mail: Woman Seeks Advice On Confronting Jewelry-Thief Friend
Julie Fisk is here to help. If you’ve need advice or want us to hash out a problem on the air for you, let Julie share some of her wisdom.
My best friend is also a co-worker of mine. We work at a local jewelry store & on a regular basis, I’ve seen her take jewelry out of the display cases to wear out for the night. She always returns it the next day but it makes me really uncomfortable. I don’t know what to do because I’m afraid if she gets caught, I’m going to get fired with her, or maybe even worse. Should I turn her in to the manager of the store? Or should I leave it alone?
The Cat Burglar’s Best Friend
Dear Cat Burglar’s Best Friend,
We think that you need to give your friend an ultimatum. Tell her that she either STOPS taking home jewelry or you will have to break up with her as a friend. She is jeopardizing BOTH of you by continuing to take home the merchandise. If she is not willing to stop, then she probably has a real problem and it’s only a matter of time before she starts KEEPING that jewelry. If that is the case, cut her off and start looking for another job. Hopefully she will recognize that this jewelry could cost her a job AND a good friend.
