Yep, totally making Chavril a thing. Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger and recording artist Avril Lavigne are very married, and apparently very happy. They sat down with People Magazine to discuss why. During the interview they dropped a few of their keys to a happy marriage, and there are two that I completely agree with!

1: No Bars/Night Clubs

Kroeger says, “We don’t want to go anywhere where we are asking for trouble…this way we don’t have to worry about that stuff.” I have to say, I completely agree. There are people who would say, ‘our relationship is secure, he can go out, I trust him.’ But, the fact of the matter is, you are still asking for trouble. Alcohol + sexy dancing (Oh no, I sound like my grandparents) = recipe for infidelity. Period.

2: No Drinking

Kroeger adds, “We don’t drink when we’re apart, ever. Even if we’re apart for weeks.” Lavigne thinks it’s just more responsible and says, “This way we don’t have to worry about any of that stuff.” How many times have you know someone to do something stupid and use the lame excuse, ‘but I was drunk!’ Yeah, add this rule to your relationship, and that excuse becomes even more unusable. If you have once thought, ‘I can’t go that long without drinking,’ then maybe you should check out AA.

I think Chavril are on to something when it comes to how to make a relationship work, they accept that it takes work and sacrifice, and a willingness to do whatever it takes to make your partner comfortable. Mistakes happen, and no two people are perfect, but with a little effort and a lot of love, the sky is the limit.
