A single mother in Durham, NC was shocked at the kindness of a stranger after dining at an area Pizza Hut with her two children.

According to Raleigh’s ABC 11, the mother of three has had a rough time of it in the last few years. A nasty divorce, having to move several times, her college student taking a year off school to help out, and then finding that her two youngest children have issues of their own. Her 4-year-old daughter has bullying tendencies and her 6-year-old son has Asperger’s and ADHD.

Per tradition, the mother takes her family out for a family dinner at a different restaurant every Friday. This particular Friday, they went to Pizza Hut. It was 6PM, and her son’s meds were starting to wear off.

There was a young man sitting in a booth not far away, and the mother made a preemptive apology for any disturbance her children might cause. Not long after, the man asked the waitress for some paper, finished his meal, and left. A waitress and the manager of the Pizza Hut came over to the family’s table and delivered a 3-page letter from the man, a $200 giftcard to Pizza Hut, and the news that their meal had been paid for by the young man.

Here’s the letter the young man wrote:

“I do not know your back story, but I have had the privilege of watching you parent your children for the past 30 minutes. I have to say thank you for parenting your children in such a loving manner.

I have watched you teach your children about the importance of respect, education, proper manners, communication, self control, and kindness all while being very patient. I will never cross your path again but am positive that you and your children have amazing futures.

Keep up the good work and when it starts to get tough do not forget that others may be watching and will need the encouragement of seeing a good family being raised. God bless! -Jake”

The act of kindness left the mother in tears.

These are the wonderful stories that we would love to hear more of!
