Taco Bell might make you want to run for the border, but perhaps not four times in a row. Definitely not in to a Taco Bell building itself, as one drunk driver in Duluth, Georgia found out Sunday night.
Gwinnett Daily Post reports that 19-year-old Armando Lupercio lost control of his vehicle and drove into a Taco Bell restaurant. A police officer was patrolling near the restaurant and heard the squealing of tires and a woman scream before the truck hit the building the first time. However, rather than leave the truck there, Lupercio backed out and tried to drive off around the restaurant. He ended up striking the building 3 more times as the officer watched from the drive thru lane with two other witnesses.
The officer had to draw his weapon before Lupercio would exit his truck. He claims that the accelerator on his truck was stuck.
“I felt the driver’s intent was to strike any object or person within the path of the truck,” the responding officer wrote in his report. “I saw the truck strike (one of the aforementioned women’s) vehicle as it sped (past). The truck made a sharp left turn and struck the building.”
Lupercio was found to have a blood-alcohol content of 0.142 which is above Georgia’s DUI threshold of 0.08 BAC. He was arrested on multiple charges including driving under the influence, possession of alcohol by a minor, hit & run, improper lane change, first-degree criminal damage to property and two counts of aggravated assault. He was still being held in jail Monday on a $47.600 bond.
