Anyone with arachnophobia might want to spend the next week and weekend in doors. It’s tarantula mating season, and the big, hairy spiders will be out on the prowl looking for a little weekend romance and a snack.

CBS News reports that the big, hairy spiders will be coming out in droves in parts of the country where they are prevalent in order to hook up for the ultimate one-night stand. However, there is no spider bar where they go to pick up dates.

Male tarantulas will leave their underground burrows and go in search of females hanging out in their own burrows. The males sample the webbing around the entrance to see if a desirable lady spider resides within. Then he starts knocking on the door. Should the female like what she sees, she’ll let him get up close and personal.

However, this one night of romance usually doesn’t end well for the male spider. They usually end up becoming a midnight snack after the deed is done.
