Julie’s Review Room: Rush
New in theaters this week we have “Rush,” the latest from director Ron Howard. It chronicles the famous rivalry between real life Formula One drivers James Hunt and Niki Lauda in the 1970’s. It stars Chris Hemsworth, who is excellent as the tasty British cad, James Hunt. The real treat though is watching Daniel Bruhl, who turns the grouchy German, Niki Lauda into a loveable curmudgeon. In fact there’s already Oscar chatter about Bruhl’s performance in this film.
Formula One purists might complain about some of the creative license that’s taken with the story and I personally have some gripes the race scenes because they feel a little cliché. That’s nit picking though because “Rush” is an excellent movie. I’m giving this one an A and keep in mind, that’s coming from someone who is NOT a race fan.
New on DVD is my favorite Avenger, Robert Downey Jr. in “Iron Man 3.”
This time Tony Stark comes up against a terrible new foe played by an outstanding Ben Kingsley. How you feel about this movie though will all depend on how you feel about Robert Downey Jr.
Almost every scene features him quipping and swaggering, which was really annoying to some folks. I, on the other hand LOVE his version of Tony Stark so I gave “Iron Man 3” and A- when it came out. Watch out though. “Iron Man 3” really pushes the PG-13 rating with foul language and adult situations. Think twice about renting it for family night or things might get a little uncomfortable.
