New in theaters this week we have Riddick, the 3rd in a series about a wanted criminal played by Vin Diesel. This time he’s been abandoned on a dangerous planet with only a space dog to keep him company, until some bounty hunters come to claim his head. However, Riddick doesn’t plan to go without a bloody fight.

This movie is simply too much of everything. There’s too much testosterone, too much blood, too many gross alien guts. Plus it’s bad, but it has moments of being deliciously bad like the cheesy Flash Gordon back drops or the over the top bad guys. I can’t say that “Riddick” doesn’t have its guilty pleasure moments, but it’s not enough to save the movie. If you liked the other Riddick films you might enjoy this but I have to give this “Riddick” a D minus.

New on DVD this week we have “Now You See Me,” starring Woody Harrelson, Mark Ruffalo and Morgan Freeman to name just a few.  It’s about a group of magicians who pull off an illusion and a bank robbery, all at the same time. I loved “Now You See Me” because it resembles a combination of Ocean’s 11 and a David Copperfield show. It’s like any great magic act because you keep thinking, “There’s no way they’re going to pull this off,” but “Now You See Me,” DOES pull it off, time and time again and that’s why I gave it an A- when it came out. Yes, there are gaping plot holes but you’ll be having too much fun to care.

And if neither one of those strike your fancy, don’t forget that “Sharknado” is now out on DVD! Sharks in a tornado. Enough said!
