A nun in Albion, New York, is going to have a lot to answer for. Sister Mary Anne Rapp was arrested for stealing $128,000 from St. Mark Church. Local news station WGRZ reports the nun took the money to fund a gambling addiction.

Sister Edith Wys,s who is the provincial minister the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity, made the following statement regarding Sister Mary Anne Rapp’s sentencing.

“Despite the enormous support that Sister Mary Anne received from friends, parishioners and her religious community, her proactive approach to her recovery and her involvement in meaningful ministry, the judge determined that she deserved jail time. We feel great empathy for the two church communities affected by her actions. Sister Mary Anne is a member of our community and we will continue to help and support her.”

Rapp will spend 90 days in jail, after which she will spend 5 years on probation. She’s also required to serve 500 hours of community service.
