Watch Jennifer Hudson Sing ‘Silent Night’ In ‘Black Nativity’ Trailer
Jennifer Hudson is offering up a little holiday inspiration with her upcoming role in Black Nativity.
The film, based off the play written by poet/playwright Langston Hughes, follows a struggling single mother from Baltimore, played by Hudson. After being evicted from her home, she is forced to send her son Langston (played by Jacob Latimore) to his estranged grandparents’ home in New York City for the holidays.
Unable to deal with the strict rules of his grandparents, Reverend Cornell and Aretha Cobbs (played by Forest Whitaker and Angela Bassett), Langston sets off on a journey to reunite with his mother. Along the way, the boy makes a few new friends and receives some divine intervention from a guardian angel (played by Mary J. Blige).
The film, a contemporary take on the Nativity scene, features modern versions of holiday classics including Hudson’s revamped take on “Silent Night.”

The singer is also rumored to be heading back to her old American Idol stomping grounds next season, this time as a judge.
Black Nativity hits theaters on November 27.
