Melissa Etheridge To Wed After Gay Marriage Ruling

With the U.S. Supreme Court’s blessing, Melissa Etheridge announced yesterday (June 26) that she plans to marry her longtime girlfriend, television writer Linda Wallem.

The rocker took to Twitter to announce the news, which came after the high court ruled against the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), allowing for California to legalize same-sex marriage.

The singer called in to CNN to share details on her marriage plans, which she said she was “proud” to share with her children.

“It is about family and I love my four kids. I called my now-fiancee. I’m looking forward to marrying my partner of three years… I’m going to get married in the state of California,” she said in the interview. “I woke (the kids) up this morning telling them the Supreme Court ruling on DOMA… I love everybody out there. It’s a great day. Love is love and America is beautiful… I’m proud to be an American.”
