If you think being young, broke, and single is a bad thing… maybe you’re in the wrong city. Money Under 30.com recently published a list of the 20 best cities to be “YBS.” A few Texas cities made the list, but you’ll be surprised who’s at #1 and how Dallas faired on the list.

Money Under 30 scoured piles of Census and Bureau of Labor Statistics data to create a list of the 20 cities. They also factored in the number of bars, how easy it is to kickstart a career, and the number of eligible singles living in the area. They admit that it’s not the most scientific list ever compiled, but it does paint an interesting portrait of where a dollar will stretch the farthest.

Here’s the list:

  1. Austin, TX
  2. Salt Lake City, UT
  3. Durham, NC
  4. Columbus, OH
  5. Baton Rouge, LA
  6. Omaha, NE
  7. New Orleans, LA
  8. Des Moines, IA
  9. Seattle, WA
  10. Oklahoma City, OK
  11. Houston, TX
  12. Charleston, SC
  13. Washington, DC/Arlington, VA
  14. Milwaukee, WI
  15. Columbia, SC
  16. San Diego, CA
  17. Orlando, FL
  18. Boston, MA
  19. Dallas, TX
  20. Minneapolis, MN

If you’re young, broke, and single, even seeing Texas cities on the list will make you breathe a sigh of relief. However, don’t let Austin’s top spot tempt you away from Dallas (#19). Dallas is still a fabulous place to be “YBS.”
