Julie’s Review Room
Lots of new movies opening this weekend so first let’s take a look at the new Disney Pixar flick “Monsters University.”
This is a prequel to the hugely successful “Monsters Inc.” which came out in 2001. We see how monsters Mike & Sully met and initially clashed in college and how they eventually came to be “Scarers.” This movie isn’t as creative as the first Monsters flick, but it’s still tons of fun to see the characters as kids.
There are several missed opportunities with the humor so “Monsters University” isn’t as funny as the trailers would lead us to believe. It does however, constantly keep you guessing. The thing I liked most about this movie is that it zigs when you expect it to zag and that’s why I’m giving “Monsters University” a B.
Also out is Brad Pitt’s version of the popular Max Brooks’ book “World War Z.”
If you are like me and LOVED the book, you should put it out of your head immediately.
It has little to do with the movie, other than the fact that zombies are killing everybody. What you’re left with is a zombie movie that is pretty much like every other zombie story you’ve seen. In fact, it’s oddly even milder, thanks to the PG-13 rating. I think we’ve probably seen more zombie-gore on “The Walking Dead.”
It might not be FRESH, but it’s still a pretty decent zombie movie and that’s why I’m giving “World War Z” a C+. It didn’t live up to the book, but I can’t help but enjoy a well-made zombie flick.
