From Zazza & Julie
Cesar Millan, the Dog Whisperer and host of the Nat Geo WILD program Leader of the Pack, will be in town Thursday, May 30th at the Winspear Opera House doing what he does best, helping humans to have better relationships with their dogs. The show starts at 8pm, and tickets start at $47.50.
As summertime approaches, many more families will be bringing home new pets. Cesar says that it’s important for the whole family to agree on having a dog, what kind of dog to have, and what behavior is expected from the dog. This will help to keep from confusing the dog on where and how they fit into your “pack”, or family.
A great illustration he used was the dog park. To be in “agreement,” he says that it’s important to know the other person. However, when strangers are at the dog park, there are different types of people with different philosophies on behavior and they are usually off in one corner and others are in a different corner. Cesar compared the groups to fans of Starbucks versus Dunkin Donuts.
Cesar also addressed how to approach a stray or lost dog in your neighborhood. Rather than trying to attract their attention with sound and sight, such as calling to the dog and waving, Cesar suggests appealing to their sense of smell. Lost dogs are usually disoriented and could be ears off/nose on. Use meats like sausage or bacon to lure them in. Cesar also suggested that horse poo works really well if you happen to have access to it.
We chatted with Cesar Millan this morning. Listen to the interview and what he had to say about introducing cats to a new puppy.
Julie mentioned something hilarious she found online, Cat Beards. Check out the Cat Beards we found on the web this morning!
