We all did it as kids, whether we admitted or not, but we stopped after constant reminders from our parents that picking our nose was impolite and gross. Now, a Canadian biochemistry professor is giving us the green light to “dig for gold.”
According to Huffington Post, Scott Napper of the University of Saskatchewan says that the mucus in our nose is designed to catch and trap germs before they get into our body, and he thinks that digesting the mucus could help teach our immune system to fight those germs.
He is looking to conduct a study to expose a group of participants to a molecule and then have half the group dig into their noses and swallow what they come up with. The study would then monitor the body’s reaction to the molecule.
