Roger Ebert Passes Away After Battle With Cancer

(CBS) – Film critic Roger Ebert has died, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting.

The veteran, Pulitzer Prize-winning critic, who celebrated his 46th year with the Sun-Times this week, had been beset with a series of illnesses in recent years, including cancer of the thyroid and salivary gland. In a column posted on his website Tuesday entitled ‘A Leave of Presence,’ Ebert wrote that he had stepped back from his usual workload of movie-reviewing to concentrate on his latest bout with cancer, which doctors first thought was a fracture.

He was 70.
