Former Cincinnati school teacher Obie Cargile has been checking items off of his bucket list. He runs in marathons, he learned to rollerskate, and now, he’s been to prison. Among the items on his bucket list is seeing what it’s like to spend time in prison, and now he can cross that off of his list.
The otherwise straight-laced 71-year-old was driving through a rough part of Cincinnati when he was pulled over for improper brake lights. Rather than pay the $160 fine, he opted to serve 3 day in jail.
Due to overcrowding, he ended up in the maximum security area. Cargile says that the inmates who seemed be in charge of the basketball court let him run circuits around the court during their games. He says that they respected him. Overall, he says that his time in prison wasn’t that bad and that he has a better understanding of the legal and jail system.
