Rod Stewart Makes ‘Time’ For Songwriting–And Teases New Music
While Rod Stewart’s last seven albums have been tributes to some of the most classic songs ever written (including five volumes dedicated to the American Songbook), his latest proves he’s not too old to rock.
Due out May 7, the 68-year-old singer’s new album, Time, will be his first album of new material since 2001’s Human. And for the first time in nearly 20 years, the singer had a hand in writing and producing 11 of the 12 songs on the record.
The singer thought that period of his life was over, but rediscovered his voice as a lyricist while writing his memoir, Rod.
“Something about that process of reviewing my life for the book reconnected me and that was it: I was away,” Stewart said in a statement. “Suddenly ideas for lyrics were piling up in my head…And now I was getting up in the middle of the night and scrambling for a pen to write things down, which has never happened to me.”
