Foodies, pack up your car and prepare to travel to sample the best foods each state has to offer! Every state in the U.S. is known for their particular specialties; Texas, of course, is known for our barbecue. Check out some of these delicious offerings from around the country.
Texas: It’s not Texas without BBQ. Fall-off-the-bone ribs slathered in sauce is enough to make you lick your lips. One of the best parts about living in Dallas/Ft Worth is that we don’t have to go far to get our BBQ fix. You can go to places like Off The Bone in Ft Worth, Randy’s Bar-B-Que in Red Oak, or one of the fabulous Sonny Bryan’s locations around town.
California: Taking a look at Tony Zazza’s home state, California is known for the avocado. The green goodness that graces our guacamole is grown in 25 different varieties in California. The avocado is so popular that it’s been added to the classic BLT and redubbed the BLAT (Bacon, Lettuce, Avocado, Tomato).
Pennsylvania: David Rancken’s home state of PA is most famous for those Philly Cheesesteaks and Hoagies. Philadelphia may be the “City of Brotherly Love,” but it’s also the cheesesteak capital of the world. Hoagies (or sub sandwiches) reign supreme closer to Pittsburgh on the western side of the state.
Oklahoma: A drive up I-35 will bring you to our northern neighbors in Oklahoma where chicken and corn pudding is the favorite entree. If you want to sample this baked comfort, make a trip to OKC and visit to Iron Star BBQ.
Louisiana: There’s no doubt that our Cajun neighbors to the east would be famous for their awesome pots of gumbo. Gumbo is a perfect metaphor for the mixing pot of culture that is New Orleans and Louisiana in itself.
