Be it rain, sleet, snow or any other phenomenon the United States Postal Service will deliver. Just no longer on the weekend.
The USPS announced Wednesday that it will no long deliver mail on Saturdays for first class mail begging in August.
However packages will still be delivered on the weekend, according to the USA Today. Package delivery with the USPS has actually scene an increase in recent years.
The Postal Service has been reeling recently, cutting back operations at 13,000 offices over the last year. The agency lost over $15 billion last fiscal year.
However most of those losses were because of the huge retirement plans that they have to pay out. More than $11 billion of the losses were because of the retiree health benefits.
Congress mandated that the service put $5.5 billion a year into a health benefit account to help with the payments, but the USPS doesn’t have that money to put aside.
