Manti Te’o sat down with Katie Couric yesterday to talk about the scandal surrounding him and his relationship with an online girlfriend, Lennay Kekua, that never existed. She asked all the questions we’ve been anxious to have answered.
Body language expert and author Traci Brown says that in the interview Te’o told about of truth. His body language shows that he was truthful in that he did not create the situation. However, his body language reveals that he perpetuated it, and that is where Brown says the lie begins.
She goes on to say that his biggest tell came when Katie asked him how he felt when he found out “Lennay” was still alive. Te’o's reaction was a big Cheshire Cat grin before he said that he was angry.
Another instance where his body communicated one thing while his mouth said another was when he was asked about his sexuality. His answer to Katie’s question of whether he was gay or not was no, but he nodded his head.
Brown says that the body can’t lie. It’s instinctive. Believe the body language over what is being said.
Traci Brown is a keynote speaker focusing on strategic body language for unconscious persuasion, and she’s the author of Mastering Magical Persuasion. Traci is a frequent TV guest interpreting the body language of criminals and politicians.
