Tony Zazza Talks To American Idol Hopeful Evan Ruggiero
One thing you can count on while watching the American Idol auditions are the inspiring stories of the hopefuls as they take their turn before the judges. Last night’s premiere featured an extraordinary young man who has risen above the circumstances that would knock the average person.
Evan Ruggiero was born to dance. When we was 5 years old, he passed up sports to take tap dance classes. He excelled in dancing and astounded his teachers in college. When he was 19, he was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a bone cancer that was attacking his right tibia. In order to save his life, doctors ended up amputating his leg above the knee.
His indomitable spirit has lead him to not only continue dancing with a peg leg but also to pursue music. Before the American Idol judges, he displayed his talent for singing and playing guitar. While he may not have gotten a golden ticket to Hollywood, his inspiring story has touched many.
Tony Zazza chatted with Evan this morning about rising above the challenges of cancer and not letting the loss of his leg steal his dreams of dancing.
