Hurricane Sandy hasn’t even made landfall on the East Coast, but the storm’s effects are already being felt.
Parts of New York are already flooded. Pictures are beginning to stream out of the areas in Sandy’s crosshairs of rising tides and landmarks already underwater. Gawker.com posted a series of pictures showing Manhattan’s Battery Park underwater as well as damage and flooding to Atlantic City’s boardwalks and piers.
In preparation for the coming storm, New York City suspended all public transit in case the subway system floods under the predicted storm surge. The MTA has posted a series of eerie photos of empty subway stations and a deserted Grand Central Station.
Our thoughts and prayers go out friends and family on the East Coast.
