Alex Clare was born in London and grew up listening to his father’s jazz, blues and soul records. His early favorites were Donny Hathaway and Stevie Wonder. In a typical “struggling artist” story, he submitted a demo to a record company, they released his first album, “The Lateness of the Hour;” and when it didn’t sell well they dropped him. He also spent a year as Amy Winehouse’s boyfriend while trying to find a label.
Eventually his song “Too Close” was picked up for use in a series of TV ads for Internet Explorer 9, and his song flew up the charts to #8 in the U.S., #1 in Germany, and #6 in England. He’s touring Eastern Europe this Fall.
