9/11 is not only a day of remembrance, it has become a day of service. With troops still serving overseas, let’s show them our support by sending love from home in the form of care packages.
Airborne Angel Cadets of Texas is a volunteer organization that sends care packages to troops serving on the front lines who don’t have access to basic amenities as they would back on base. They started up seven years ago when they discovered that many soldiers were not receiving any care packages from home. Now, they provide care packages for upwards of 12,000 troops in every branch of the military.
How can you help?
- Donate money. Postage is the most expensive part of the mission. Airborne Angel Cadets of Texas has to pay to ship all the care packages overseas out of pocket. Monetary donations will go to pay for postage and buy specially requested supplies like microwaves and mattress pads.
- Donate supplies. Hold a collection drive to gather supplies such as snack foods and basic toiletries.
- Involve the kids. Troops love to receive things from kids. From cards, letters, and drawings to decorated pillowcases, anything creative your kids can make for the troops is sure to put a smile on their faces.
