p1040021 Deep Fried Jambalaya Wins Big Tex Best Taste Award

For the 5th time, Abel Gonzalez takes the top trophy for the State Fair of Texas’ Big Tex Choice Awards. His Deep Fried Jambalaya was named “Best Taste” for the 2012 State Fair of Texas.

The “Best Taste” winner is Abel’s own jambalaya recipe, a mixture of shrimp, sausage, and cajun seasonings coated with flour and fried to golden bliss. It comes with some spicy ranch on the side.

Deep Fried Jambalaya joins Abel’s other winning creations, such as Fried Butter, Fried Coke, Fried Cookie Dough, and Fried Peanut Butter, Jelly, and Banana Sandwich. Along with five winners, Abel’s fried concoctions have been nominated every year in the seven-year history of the Big Tex Choice Awards.

The 2012 “Most Creative” trophy goes to Butch Benavides for his Fried Bacon Cinnamon Roll, a sweet and bacon-y fried combination of a cinnamon roll dipped in pancake batter, rolled in bacon crumbles, dropped in the fryer, and sprinkled in powdered sugar.
