As the door on summer closes, there’s a scrumptious aroma wafting in the window that just opened. The smells of the State Fair of Texas will soon be filling the air around Fair Park, and who isn’t antsy to see what they decided to fry this year!
Just this morning, the folks at the State Fair announced the Big Tex Choice Awards finalists. Eight finalists will fry their way into history and the winners for Best Taste and Most Creative will be decided this weekend. What will your taste buds be looking forward to this year? Have a look:
Deep Fried Mac-N-Cheese Slider. Oh cheesy Heaven! Three-cheese mac that’s baked golden brown, battered in bread crumbs, fried until it’s crispy on the outside, and then placed on a slider bun with a girdled beef patty.
Chicken Fried Cactus Bites. Bite into prickly pear cactus pads that are thinly sliced, chicken battered, and fried to yumminess. The sweet and spicy sauce will bite back with a combination of jalapeño ranch and agave nectar dipping sauce.
Deep-Fried Divine Chocolate Tres Leches Cake. Here’s your deep fried desert. Chocolate tres leches cake drowned in buttermilk and fried. Topped with a sprinkling of powdered sugar, whipped cream, fresh slices of strawberries and peaches, and drizzled with syrup. This is sure to send any sweet tooth into overdrive!
Deep Fried Jambalaya. The State Fair gets a Cajun twist this year with jambalaya made from scratch and loaded with shrimp, cajun sausage, and seasonings. It’s coated in a lightly-seasoned flour and fried to perfection. Don’t forget the side of specially made spicy ranch!
Fried Bacon Cinnamon Roll. Bacon lovers rejoice! Breakfast and dessert join together in sweet, bacon-crusted heaven! This is a cinnamon roll dipped in pancake batter, rolled in crispy fried bacon crumbles, and then deep fried to heavenly perfection. Sprinkled with powdered sugar. You’ll want to start your day with this fried gem!
Fried Mexican Fire Crackers. Spicy chicken, cheese, and jalapeño mix wrapped in masa dough and deep fried until it’s crispy and crunchy. Add some fiery TNT sauce and you’ll have a flavor explosion in your mouth!
Fried Pork Wing. Slow-cooked for six hours and then lightly deep fried, rolled and tossed in smoked bacon chipotle glaze. Served with homemade potato chips that made been lightly dusted with barbecue seasoning. Sure to be finger-licking good!
Picnic On A Stick. Ants will have a hard time crashing this picnic! Pieces of spicy chicken, tater tots, and pickles alternated three times on a stick, dipped in batter, rolled in bread crumbs, and fried to golden perfection. Take your choice of BBQ, ranch, or honey mustard dipping sauces and enjoy!
