Tom Hanks and his production company Playtone are gearing up to produce a movie about the Kennedy assassination set here in Dallas. The drama titled Parkland refers to the hospital where President Kennedy was taken after he was shot and pronounced dead, where his assassin Lee Harvey Oswald died two days later, and where Oswald’s killer Jack Ruby died a few years later.
Parkland is said to be an ensemble film much like Emilio Estevez’s Golden Globe-nominated film Bobby. It will explore the impact on characters in and around Dallas on November 22, 1963 in the aftermath of the shooting and death of President Kennedy. The characters will include a FBI agent, a doctor, a reporter, Secret Service agents, Kennedy’s staff, Oswald’s brother, Jackie Kennedy, and Abraham Zapruder, who made the most famous of all the Kennedy Assassination films.
Variety reports that writer Peter Landesman will make his directorial debut with Parkland. Hanks and Playtone partner Gary Goetzman are in talks with the Dallas Film Commission to shoot all or parts of the film here in Dallas and at Parkland Hospital.
