Doug Waldie had a very interesting situation on his hands. In just eight weeks five of his eight children all either proposed or accepted a proposal of marriage. So with everyone ready to tie the knot, the family decided to do it all at once.
Last Friday the Waldie kids and their significant others all tied the knot together in a ‘mega wedding’ at a Mormon church in Mesa, Arizona.
Brooke, 20, Walker, 24, Sydney, 25, Bradford, 26, and Emily, 28, all banded together to enjoy a fantastic family event for their wedding.
“Except for Walker, who had dated his new wife in high school, the rest of the couples had just met each other around October of last year,” the NY Daily News reports Waldie saying. “By December or so, I could see the tidal of waves coming. They were all very, very much in love. So even at that point, I’m thinking to myself, ‘I’m never going to be able to afford that many weddings.’”
Waldie joked that doing that many separate weddings would give an unfair advantage to the first wedding and the fifth would get a bus ticket and about 30 bucks.
Although the weddings were held together the big day consisted of five different ceremonies and one reception. There were five wedding cakes and little sister Andee, 18, was a bridesmaid in four of the weddings with a different outfit for each.
One of the major reasons the kids decided to share their big day is that one of the brothers was ordered to report for Air Force pilot training at the end of August.
All the kids are now off on honeymoons, just them and their new spouses.
