A 40-year-old Pflugerville man was stung more than 300 times Wednesday, August 8th, after accidentally disturbing a colony of Africanized honey bees, also known as “killer bees”.

The Huffington Post is reporting that officials say the man is in stable condition after being rushed to the hospital yesterday. Authorities say three others were stung in the attack by the aggressive bees, but not seriously.

The man was attacked when he attempted to move a cabinet that the bees had built a large hive inside. Keith Huddle, a bee keeper who helped remove the colony, told the Austin-American Statesman the colony contained nearly 125,000 bees, and 120 pounds of honey.

According to entomologist Wizzie Brown, Africanized honey bees are becoming more common place in Texas.
