We’re not sure about you, but we know there are few things better than spending a hot summer night with some ice cream and a good movie. So we asked our on-air personalities to give us their favorite movies to take in during these hot summer days.
Here is my list for TOP 10 Summer Movies:
Summer is my favorite time of year, until August hits with it’s incredible broiler style temperatures. That’s when Summer goes from fun being outside, to trying to find things to do inside to beat the heat. Here are a list of 10 Movies that never get old in my book.
10. Life as a House
I picked this one up in the bargain bin at Blockbuster years ago and remember watching it one summer afternoon while I was bored. My Dad called me towards the end and I was a balling mess. An unexpected great flick and worth the $3 I paid. Even though I know when certain parts are coming, this one still gets me every time!
9. Anchor Man
Being a San Diego native, a fan of TV media and of Will Farrell this is one that I cannot get enough of. It is just a classic. Shocked when I hear some have never seen it.
8. Any of the Godfather Trilogy
I am a huge fan of this series and any movie that has a character named Zazza has to be good. I am not sure of the spelling of Joey’s name but it’s cool non-the-less.
7. The Dark Knight
I have never really gotten into any of the Batman movies, until this one. Heath Ledger was simply amazing as the Joker and what is still one of my all time faves, you can’t help but think of the tragic loss of Heath right that the peak of the hype and a movie that surely would have pushed him beyond super-stardom. He is missed.
6. Lion King
Don’t laugh. I hated animation as a kid. Never was big into cartoons. My dad and my other siblings would sit on the couch on Saturday mornings with a bowl of Trix and watch cartoons for hours. Not me. Hated them. They were fake and not real and I just wanted to play baseball. Now that I am older, I LOVE animation and love a good animated film with a great story. This one hands down my favorite animation of all time!
5. Donnie Brasco
Two of my all time favorites are Johnny Depp and Al Pacino. Not to mention I wanted to be in law enforcement (it’s what I studied in college). So this is a home run and add in that it’s based on a true story, that is just the icing on the cake. Fogetta bout it.
Wasn’t sure how I was going to like this flick, but took one for the team and went with some friends to get some hang time in. I don’t think any of us ever stopped laughing. I have watched it at least 5 times now and laugh even hard because of the stuff that I keep missing from laughing so hard. Brilliant! Please no sequel, let it be!
Summer as a kid was filled with days at the ball field. I lived and breathed baseball as a kid and all through college. That was my big dream. So to watch Sandlot especially in summer brings back sweet memories of when I was that skinny kid that could run like the wind. I miss those days!
2. The Kings Speech
Again, another one I wasn’t sure how I was going to like but fell in love with this film within minutes. Normally not a flick that would grab and keep my attention, but this one did. A great story mixed perfectly with a nice balance of comedy.
1. Field of Dreams
Back to baseball. This movie to this day is very special to me. My grandfather played pro ball and passed away at a very young age. I remember the first time my father and I watched this together and seeing Ray get one more round of catch with his dad was it. I have goosebumps as I am writing this. My dad’s dad was a catcher and I can always remember my Dad saying he wished he could have one more catch with his father. Not to mention putting James Earl Jones in this truly was perfect.
Hope you enjoy some of these and stay cool! I suggest sitting in a kiddie pool filled with ice water in your living room with a bag of popcorn easily accessible.
