With just a month left in summer vacation, it’s time to start thinking about the back-to-school shopping. Of course, when we think back-to-school shopping, we all think about Texas’ Tax Free Weekend. This year, it falls on the weekend of August 17-19. You can be sure that the malls and stores will be packed much like it is at Christmas.
The Tax Free Weekend exempts the sales tax on clothing purchases under $100. Backpacks are also included in the exemption as long as they fall below the $100 cut off. You can also get a tax break for school supplies under $100.
With the tax breaks, shoppers will save about $8 for every $100 spent during the Tax Free Weekend. It’s estimates that shoppers will save about $64.8 million dollars from the state and local sales taxes over the weekend, according to the state comptroller’s office.
