Music is more than just beats and rhythms put together with words to blast out through headphones. Yes some of it is just that, but most music has a deeper meaning. Music can touch your heart, your head, your very soul.
Sara Bareilles seems to know how to reach that deeper place in her fans. So much so that the group that runs sarabfans.com put together a fan video for Sara’s song ‘Beautiful Girl’ that is both moving and inspirational.
The song, which is seemingly talking to all the girls who don’t believe in themselves, talks about seeing yourself as beautiful before anyone else will.
“So before you trade in your summer skin for those high heeled shoes,
To make him want to be with you.
Let me remind you one more time…
That just maybe, you’re beautiful but you just cant see.
So why don’t you trust me,
They’ll see it too you beautiful girl you”
The people in charge of sarabfans.com asked all the Sara Bareilles fans out there to submit videos of themselves to patch together a video for the song with an uplifting message. They asked the video makers to shoot themselves lip syncing the song ‘Beautiful Girl’. They also asked for video of Bareilles’ fans confessing their insecurities on pieces of paper (not an easy thing to do for most) along with images of them emotionless or sad. Finally they asked for images of the Bareilles fans smiling, dancing, laughing and more signs with positive messages like: ‘I am beautiful’.
The end result turned out to be an amazingly emotional and powerful video for young women.
Sara herself was moved by watching the video. Taking to twitter to express her admiration.
