Double Amputee To Be The First At The Olympics
Oscar Pistorius has done something no other human being has ever done. He made the Olympics without the bottom half of both his legs. The double amputee will compete for South Africa next month in London for the 2012 Summer games. The runner will be in the 400 meter and 4×400 meter relay teams for his native country.
He will also compete in the Paralympics; which are held at the same time in the same arenas as the Olympics. Pistorius, nicknamed “Blade Runner”, qualified last week for a chance to represent his country.
The 25 year old will probably be the focus of the world when he takes the track in London. He said of his accomplishment, “To have been selected to represent Team South Africa is a real honour, and I am so pleased that years of hard work, determination and sacrifice have all come together. Today is truly one of the proudest days of my life.”
