In the late 60s and 70s it was called “bubblegum.” Now, a catchy, sing-along pop tune stands out in a sea of dance tracks and hip hop. Carly Rae Jepsen‘s hit “Call Me Maybe” does stand out, and has gathered quite a bit of attention for this 26 year old Canadian singer/songwriter. She finished 3rd on the 5th season of Canadian Idol, and just recently released her second album, “Curiosity.” The album is on Schoolboy Records, which is owned by Justin Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun. And probably not coincidentally, her first appearance on American TV was on the Ellen Degeneres Show, where she was joined by Mr. Bieber himself.
“Call Me Maybe” recently peaked in the Top 5 on the U.S. Billboard charts, and went to #1 in Canada, U.K., Ireland and Australia. She’s currently on the “Shout It Out” World Tour, where she’s opening for Hanson.
