Entertainment icon Dick Clark became one of the trending topics on Twitter Wednesday afternoon, moments after the announcement of his death went public.

Clark died at the age of 82 after suffering from a massive heart attack at Saint John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, his publicist said.

He was admitted to the hospital Tuesday night “for an outpatient procedure. Attempts to resuscitate were unsuccessful,” the statement said.

Dozens of celebrities began tweeting their condolences upon hearing the news of his death.

Ryan Seacrest, who co-hosted New Year’s Rockin Eve with Clark from 2006 to 2011, tweeted: “I am deeply saddened by the loss of my dear friend Dick Clark. He has truly been one of the greatest influences in my life… My thoughts and prayers are with his family.”
