The Hunger Games is one of the most anticipated films that will be released this year, and with mid-night showings for the Friday release selling out two weeks ago it is set to have a huge opening weekend. Looks like it is going to blow the Twilight series out of the water.
But what about Harry Potter. Here are 5 reasons we think The Hunger Games will not be bigger than Harry Potter.
5. Family-Friendly Fantasy vs. Dystopian Mayhem:
This may be the biggest factor to why Harry Potter will win out. The first Potter film was a bring the whole family, PG-rated crowd-pleaser. The Hunger Games is a PG-13 tale of teen-vs.-teen slaughter. Not something that sounds like fun for the whole family.
4. Source Material:
Author Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games book trilogy has sold 26 million copies. That is a phenomenal sales number. But that is a drop in the bucket for how many copies of the Harry Potter books sold. The J.K. Rowling penned series has reportedly sold 15x that amount.
