Lite’s Review Room – Whitney Houston

Perhaps no solo artist has sprung on the scene with such an immediate impact as [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Whitney Houston[/lastfm].  In the first 11 years of her career she released 5 albums; three of them went to #1, and the other two were #3 on the Billboard charts.  All three #1 albums have sold at least 11 million copies.  There were nine #1 singles, and, of course, the greatest Star Spangled Banner performance of all time at the Super Bowl while Desert Storm was taking place in the Middle East.

She was born to be a star, with Cissy Houston as her mother and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Dionne Warwick[/lastfm] as a cousin.  She sang backup for [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Chaka Khan[/lastfm] (and then made “I’m Every Woman” a hit for herself).  Although the last few years have not been kind to her, let’s hope that once the tributes have passed that we can let this amazingly talented singer rest in peace.
