Burleson’s Kelly Clarkson Shines During National Anthem

All eyes were on [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Kelly Clarkson[/lastfm] Sunday night as she sang the national anthem before the Super Bowl in Indianapolis. After last year’s lyrics flub by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Christina Aguilera[/lastfm] and the recent anthem train wreck by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Steven Tyler[/lastfm], everyone was waiting with baited breath to see if Burleson’s American Idol champ would sparkle or sizzle out during the “Star-Spangled Banner.”

One of the best rules out there is the K.I.S.S. rule: “Keep It Simple, Silly.” Kelly Clarkson abided by this rule last night, keeping her performance free of excessive vocalizing and nailing the lyrics. She sang beautifully. Have a listen!

Gene did a great job in his recent live rendition of the National Anthem. Just for the fun of it, right after hearing him sing I turned off the car radio and also sang the tune.

Agreed, it is a difficult song to perform. But any time the melody is sung as written it sounds really good. Kelly Clarkson did an excellent job of singing it at the Super Bowl. The times other muscial artists have gotten into trouble have been when they’ve tried to sound “cool” by attempting an “artsy” verison of the song then totally butchering it. Kelly did not do this so her version was powerful.

The only “artsy” version of the song I’ve ever enjoyed is the one Jimi Hendrix performed many years ago and that was an instrumental.
