With the new “If I DieFacebook app everyone can have fun with their death. Well that is at least what the makers of the app are hoping people will react.

The “If I Die” app will allow users to share a message to all their friends on Facebook from beyond the grave.

If I Die” allows you to make a recording of yourself using a webcam, and then when you die trustees, that you have per-determined, will release the video to all of your Facebook friends to see.

It’s a good idea in theory, as their advertisement states, none of us schedule our own deaths and we would all like to have last words, but the whole thing just seems a bit weird.

Do we really want the legacy we leave behind after we die to be in all likelihood-inarticulate, embarrassing, and self-indulgent rant captured by our MacBook cameras, displayed under the bubbly font of the “If I Die” app?

And you better really hope you like what you said, because once you’re dead that “If I Die” video goes up. There’s no turning back. No deleting. No undo button. This video will be the last memory that any of your friends and family will have of you.

Maybe you like the idea of being able to haunt the people in your life after your gone, maybe you don’t, but I think we can all agree that the internet and social media has officially infiltrated every aspect of our lives.
