Somebody has played a mean joke. An obviously fake cover of People magazine is making the rounds, and it’s fooled fans and other celebs. The cover “outs” Twilight star Taylor Lautner and attributes a quote to him saying he’s “more liberated, and happier than [he’s] ever been.”

The phony cover of the January 7th, 2012 issue of People stirred up quite a buzz touting an exclusive interview with Lautner coming out of the closet. Celebrites like Def Jam’s Russel Simmons tweeted their congratulations before realizing they had been duped.

Simmons later vented on his Twitter page that he was “disappointed that people would joke about someone coming out about their sexuality. Let Taylor Lautner be whoever he wants to be…”

Lautner addressed false rumors on the web in an interview with the real People magazine back in November. “It’s very rare that things are true about yourself that are on the Internet,” Taylor says. “It’s just sad sometimes. So you definitely want to stay away from it as much as possible.”
