“Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” is the latest track in our countdown of the best festive music – and it’s a gold-stamped classic, named #1 in Rolling Stone’s list of The Greatest Rock and Roll Christmas Songs last year.
Today Last.fm Trends looks into how the various versions of the song have been scrobbled by Last.fm users.
Out on top with 134,918 plays from 50,026 listeners is Mariah Carey‘s version. She’s appeared in our Christmas classics rundown before, with the self-penned “All I Want For Christmas Is You” – but this track was originally written in 1963 and performed by Darlene Love. The original comes a close second with 111,144 scrobbles from 49,812 listeners, and has been kept in the public eye via yearly performances on the Christmas edition of Late Show with David Letterman.
On the other end of the spectrum, the song seems to have attracted a host of rock covers: from U2 (38,413 listeners) to Joey Ramone (1,066 listeners) to Death Cab For Cutie (29,298 listeners). Which is your favorite?
