Sometimes social media can be our greatest friend and our greatest enemy. Politicians’ careers have been derailed with a single tweet. Charlie Sheen made Twitter his empire this year, garnering 5 million followers. With a single tweet, Charlie Sheen accidentally gave all 5 million of his followers his personal cell phone number.
“310-954-7277 Call me, bro. C.”
This was the tweet intended to be a private direct message to Justin Bieber. However, the tweet, along with Charlie Sheen’s phone number, went public last Thursday.
Charlie’s phone quite literally “blew up” with over 1,800 text messages and innumerable phone calls, some of which he actually answered. Lucky fans who actually reached Charlie on the phone were greeted with “Ray’s Pizza” and “Winning.” The tweet has since been deleted and the phone number disconnected.
A rep for Charlie says that he was in Las Vegas eating dinner when he sent out the message. Of course, Charlie now has a new, private phone number, as well as an important life lesson:
Be careful what you Twitter.
